48 days and we’re allowed outside!

At 6.20am my alarm went off. While I didn’t jump out of bed with tons of energy, I was certainly excited about going outside. We have two time slots in which we’re allowed to exercise: 6-10am or 8-11pm. The sunrise isn’t until 7.17 but I wanted to see just how dark it really was in that pre-dawn light (6.20: dark, 6.45: light enough to go outside and see where you’re going). I couldn’t help but do a little whoop of joy as I went outside and turned left, towards the hills, instead of right, towards the city centre. Anyway, it’s now 22.26 and I’m STILL feeling pretty happy at having been outside, without the intention of going to buy food. I am SO lucky that on my doorstep is this wonderful nature park with many hiking trails (they are a little more bushy than normal, with glorious wildflowers, but still more than accessible). We have to stick within a 1 kilometre radius of our addresses and I think I more or less did that but from what I understand, within that 1km we can do as much exercise as we want so today I managed a whole 6km which I feel very delighted about. I was also really happy that I went as early as I did as on my return there were definitely a lot more people around and although everyone was really respectful of distance, obviously we still have to be really careful (especially having since seen photos of Madrid and Barcelona where the streets were heaving). When I got home at 9am it was so lovely to watch everyone from my balcony. There was such a sense of joy in the air. And then at 10am everyone disappeared which was so bizarre. And now it’s night time and after a day of the usual quarantine quietness it was strange but wonderful to see the street start to fill up at 8pm. What a wonderful day. And I get to go outside again tomorrow!

El amanecer, my favourite time of day.

  1. What a wonderful blog today, and superb pictures. it was great to see you yesterday for breakfast too, but as usual (like if you had been round for dinner) I was a bit distracted cooking. Marlie’s birthday went off pretty ok in the “new “normal kinda way………well well . Have been busy making sourdough and hurricane shutters and watching a lot of movies. much love Pete
