Here’s me thinking that my Spanish, although extremely far from perfect, wasn’t terrible. There’s always room for improvement but I reckon I don’t ALWAYS make a fool of myself when having a conversation (but fully accept that I will do so more than I’d necessarily like). Yesterday, after knowing Lucía for over 2 months, something clicked for me. The verb grabar means to record/to film. So when she told me, 2+ months ago, that she was doing her masters in grabado obviously I took that to mean that she was studying film (and not grabbing, which is always my initial thought. To grab is agarrar or coger). She then also made reference to part of her project being done in La Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre and because the first season of La Casa de Papel/Money Heist is set there, for some reason my brain just took for granted that she was doing something with film even though it’s the Royal Mint and not actually a place of film. The latest season had just come out when she told me all of this so my mind was clearly jumping all over the place. Also, she seems to know a fair bit about more obscure films so again, more wandering mind… Bear in mind I’m doing all of this in another language and I reckon if I get most of what she’s saying then I’m doing quite well and never mind the fact that the work she is constantly doing is drawing rather than film related stuff (my knowledge of this is very limited). Anyway, yesterday I learnt that grabar also means to etch/engrave. It all makes a lot more sense now. What a tit I am.
In other news she made me the most incredible pear and gorgonzola risotto for lunch yesterday, which despite the heat, I would happily eat again right now. Also, we got seriously excited yesterday about renting my friend’s car next weekend to go to the beach but it seems that’s not yet allowed. So, for now I’m still at home and still not reading…
