For the occasion of entering into my third decade. In no particular order…
- Try not to get too overwhelmed. It’s ok that you don’t know what you’re doing. Remember that it’s “exciting.”
- Wear the damn sunblock.
- Say yes more often. Por qué no?!
- Sit up straight.
- Exercise more often. It makes you feel good. And let’s not pretend you’ve thrown vanity aside.
- Let go. Let go of all the things that have been tying you down. Easier said than done but at least give it a try!
- Don’t drink bad alcohol. You don’t like it and it makes you feel terrible the next morning. Keep drinking the alcohol you DO like though! 🙂
- Try to think about what you’re saying when you’re angry. Breathe for a moment and then speak. Irrationality is not a good look.
- Keep rocking out in Jah Guide with the volume on full so you can’t hear how bad your voice really is.
- Aquire less stuff. Or at least to make more meaningful purchases when you feel capitalist society calling.
- Don’t stop feeding people just because you don’t want to do it for a living anymore. It makes you feel good and it makes people like you. And it’s nice when people like you.
- Return to Tierra del Fuego.
- Be present.
- Drink more water.
- Give yourself a pat on the back for what you’ve managed to accomplish.
- Keep making a bit of a fool of yourself. It doesn’t matter what people think. The ones who love you will love you more for it and the ones who don’t love you are missing out.
- Keep making yourself laugh. If you can make others laugh at the same time that’s just a bonus. But don’t try too hard.
- Look back fondly.
- Don’t compromise your values.
- Try things that put you out of your comfort zone. You tend to feel good about it afterwards.
- Travel as much as your wallet allows you to.
- Take time to clear the noise. Write things down. Meditate. Go for a swim. Don’t let things fester in your head for too long.
- Make the video of mum and Lecky before it’s too late.
- Don’t rush. It’s happening as it’s supposed to.
- Keep learning languages. There is no downside. Plus it means you can go live in another country for a while.
- Learn to make mum’s saltfish.
- Floss.
- Cry when you need to. It’s cathartic.
- Be honest. With yourself and with those around you.
- Lastly, but certainly not least, NEVER stop baltering.
Happy belated birthday Leah, hope you are around when we get down there the end of January.
